The holiday season is fast approaching! Are you excited?! Decorating for Fall and Thanksgiving is going to be so much fun. Especially with so many Crochet Pumpkins that even a beginner can make! In this blog post we will cover all things crochet pumpkin.
Crochet Pumpkin Pattern Free: Amigurumi
Crochet pumpkin amigurumi is always popular this time of year. I did my first crochet pumpkin amigurumi around this time last year. It was so much easier than I thought it would be and I gained so much crochet experience by doing something I had never done before!
This video has a crochet pumpkin pattern free and is the pattern I used when I made my first pumpkin.
The first one I made last year was small enough to fit in my hand, but this year I think I am going to go bigger. This year I am also going to experiment with some different stitches. So far I simply did the double crochet in back loops only, but I want to try other textures. I am going to try the basket weave and moss stitches. Both of these stitches are also great for blankets!
With so many size and color options out there, the possibilities are endless. Each crochet pumpkin is made the same regardless of size, so make up a few and spruce them up with some cinnamon sticks for stems or fake florals.
Mix and match a few different sizes to create that perfect Thanksgiving table centerpiece or use some to decorate your fireplace mantle.
In addition to amigurumi, you can really add to your Fall decorations with coasters, hot pads, place mats, table runners and pillows. If decor is not what you’re after, I will also write about some baby gifts and if you know me, granny squares!
Pumpkins in the Kitchen
Fall is a favorite season for a lot of people, even though I am not really one of them. (I live in South Alabama, we don’t really have “Fall”) I have explored several crochet pumpkins that can be created to decorate the kitchen for Fall. Some you might think of right away, others you might be like me and think, “oh wow, that’s a great idea”.
Pumpkin Coasters
Pumpkin Coasters could be a really cute part of your kitchen Fall decor. Coasters, in general, are something I have always had interest in making, but I never actually have. There are endless designs of coasters, you are sure to find something that interests you if it isn’t a pumpkin. I will be testing out a few of the free pumpkin coasters I find to let you all know how easy they are.
I made the above coaster following this pattern. Overall it was not hard. The last round was a little tricky. For the stem I did not use the pattern, I made it up myself. I learned to do the “curly q” from making worry worms, so that was beneficial. I am not sure if the pattern for the stem was the same as how I did it, but it had a curly q nonetheless.
Hot Pads
Hot pads are a great way you can add some hits of Fall throughout your kitchen. Hot pads can be placed on counters or hung on hooks by the stove. Crochet duplicates, then you have some to use and some to display. Keep in mind when crocheting hot pads, and most kitchen items, it is best to use a cotton yarn. Acrylic can melt!
Place Mats or Table Runners
Don’t forget the dining room! The dining room is probably one of the most decorated rooms when it comes to Fall. It is after all where the Thanksgiving meal usually takes place. Place mats or table runners are a lovely way to dress up that table and don’t forget the kids’ table!
I plan to crochet either a place mat or a table runner and see what I come up with. I will report back on the difficulty or ease of the patterns I try. Remember, I am not an expert crocheter, merely a seasoned amateur.
Pumpkins for Babies
When it comes to babies, pumpkins are great, they are gender neutral. So whether you need something for a baby on the way or one that is already here, surely a pumpkin will be cute!
Baby Hat
Crochet pumpkin hats are just adorable and like most other crochet items, there are several different ways to create them. Personally, hats are not my forte. I have successfully made one or two, but not something I really even try.
A quick search on Pinterest will show you several types of hats. Most are the beanie style, but with many variations on the stems and leaves. Side note: there are also several baby hat and diaper cover sets that are super cute!
I think this hat pattern is my favorite pumpkin hat. It has baby all the way to adult sizes!
Baby Rattles
A pumpkin baby rattle would not be too difficult to make. Start by making a small amigurumi pumpkin as mentioned in the beginning of this post. Along with stuffing on the inside, add a baby rattle insert. You can get these on Amazon.com.
Next, get a small wooden ring and wrap it with yarn. This can be done by simply using a single crochet stitch and stitching all the way around. Once your ring is covered, simply attach the pumpkin to the ring (securely) and voila!
Granny Squares
If you haven’t figured it out by now, I love all things granny squares. And yes, you guessed it you can even make granny squares with pumpkins. Now that we’ve taken care of the kitchen and the dining room and we’ve made some pumpkins to sit out as decoration, why not make something for your living room? You can make a pair of granny squares with a pumpkin and use it as a pillow cover or you can make a granny square pumpkin blanket. (11) Pinterest GINGHAM PUMPKIN BLANKET – Share a Pattern
A pumpkin granny square blanket could be done as both a continuous granny square, or individual squares joined together. And let’s not forget the variety of lovely Fall colors we could choose from. I can already see the granny square pumpkin blanket draped over the couch!
Lets not forget that you could easily make yourself a pumpkin themed cardigan to wear to your Thanksgiving dinner! If a cardigan is not on your list of to-dos, perhaps a pumpkin themed granny square purse is!
So as you can see there are tons of pumpkins you can make to celebrate the Fall season. Make several for you or make as gifts. And remember when you are out shopping for yarn to keep the Fall season in the back of your mind so you are ready when next Fall comes around!
