I don’t know about you, but the ladies I work with are really into these “tea” drinks. It’s some kind of health drink that provides energy or something. Anyways, they have these large, iced drinks on their desks getting condensation everywhere. This gave me the thought of making a cold brew koozie for their cups.
Cold Brew Crochet Koozie Free Pattern
Little did I know, everyone was making these cozies for iced coffee! So, are you wanting to know how to crochet cold brew cozy/koozie? Look no further! Once I started following a pattern for one, I decided to just wing it. I created my own free crochet koozie pattern for a large cold brew drink and I am here to share it with you today.
I had recently come into some yarn from another girl I work with and there was a caron cakes yarn skein in the bag. It was variegated, and I LOVE variegated, so I used it to make the first cozy/koozie. The bottom is an orange color and as it goes up it turns to yellow. (The pictures distort the colors a bit).

The size of the kozy will depend on whether or not you want it for a large cup, like pictured above, or a regular size cup such as the paper cup a hot coffee would come in. I am going to tell you how to make both. That being said, please realize this is not a pattern post, the purpose of this post is to tell you how to do it, and YOU MAKE YOUR OWN!
LET’S get started
Now for this crochet koozie free pattern I would like you to choose 2 stitches that you like. The koozie that I made (pictured above/below) has the half double crochet and the puff stitch. I love the puff stitch. It is a neat looking stitch, and it’s not that hard, but it is a yarn eater. Keep in mind, once you follow this “pattern” and gain a full understanding of the process here, you will be able to recreate with whatever stitch (or pattern!) that you like. Also keep in mind, these are great items to sell, I however have not tried to sell mine yet.

Cup Koozie Dimensions
The first thing you need to know to make this is the dimensions. A quick Google search will tell you that the koozie should be. Typically, most are about 10 inches in circumference. Now the next thing is to decide which of the 2 ways you are going to choose to make it.
Rectangle or Circle
The first way is to simply crochet a 10-inch-long rectangle and then join the ends together creating a circle. You usually see this method done with a button and loop attached to the ends instead of sewing them together. Personally, I don’t like this method, but to each their own.
The method that I prefer is to simply crochet the entire circle, instead of the rectangle. Keep in mind, for this method we won’t be working with circumference. If we need 10 inches in circumference, that is basically 5 inches when it is laid flat (like pictured below).

Difficulty
The last decision you need to make is whether or not you want the bottom to be smaller than the top, creating the sort of V shape to fit the cup better. I did mine this way, but that involves adding some difficulty to the project with adding increases, so it is up to you.

CROCHET KOOZIE Free PATTERN
Ok, Let’s begin the crochet koozie free pattern. To start, we need to chain enough to reach our 10 inches. I believe I used a size 6 crochet hook and chained about 30. Get a fabric tape measure and just chain until you have enough to reach your 10 inches. Once you do, join the last stitch to the first stitch with a slip stitch. This forms your circle. From here, you will work in rounds building your work upwards.
Pick the first of you 2 stitches and work 2 rounds with it. Then, pick the second of your 2 stitches and work 2 rounds with it. Do this alternating until you reach the height of the koozie that you want, either the 3 inches or the 7 inches. Make sure you are counting your stitches and your work is progressing evenly. I like to lie mine flat every few rounds and measure it again.
***Crochet tip, when you switch stitches, do the first round in back loop only to create a little texture!
If you chose to go with the V shape and increases, simply add one or 2 stitches every few rounds. You won’t have to add very many at all, so I would probably only do 2 increases throughout the entire cup cozy.
Now all you have to do is keep rotating your stitches until you reach your desired height! See, that wasn’t so hard, and you have officially created your own pattern, all by yourself! I would love to see what you have come up with, so if you crochet a cold brew cozy following this blog post, PLEASE post it to Instagram or twitter and tag me!
