So many crocheters are looking for free patterns and crochet items to sell. Today I have a pattern that fits both of those, a NO SEW crochet sprout bookmark. Recently I joined this really cool local Facebook group where people sell items in an auction format. I thought this would be an interesting way to sell some crochet items. All auctions start at a dollar and have the potential to end at $1 as well, so I wanted to start with small items to test the water. I decided some bookmarks might work well since people sell a lot of books in this group, me included.
Today I am going to share with you a couple of free crochet bookmark patterns I have found and used as well as which ones sell the best and how much I am getting for them on auction prices. One of these is actually designed by yours truly! You can use this information to price your own items or decide if you might want to try to sell crochet bookmarks.

Two popular items on this auction group are books and plants or plant cuttings (I sell those too). Personally, I love books and plants, especially the vining ones! I have several pothos and philodendrons and I am always on the lookout for a good used book! With this in mind, I figured the first of the free crochet bookmark patterns I would try would be the crochet sprout bookmark.
The free pattern I found for the crochet sprout bookmark was made in two pieces and then the 2 pieces were joined. I don’t know about you, but I am not the biggest fan of having to sew my crochet, so I thought about it all night until I figured out how to create my own pattern, without having to sew! And I am sharing this free pattern with you here!

The picture above is that photo I used to put my sprout bookmarks on Facebook. Colleen Hoover books are also very popular in this auction group so I used one in the picture for more attention (Snagged 2 of them used for $1 each! I have yet to ever read a Coleen Hoover book, but I figure they must be good).
I decided to sell a set of 2 bookmarks instead of just one, because I thought that would be more lucrative. I figured people might be more likely to bid if they got one for themselves, and then one to potentially gift. This was a risk, though so decide what works best for you.

Within 5 minutes of posting the auction I had the first $1 bid. That is a record for me. Overall, my very first set of bookmarks sold for $6. Now I know that is not the greatest price, but given these take just a few minutes to make, I don’t consider it to be terrible either.
Like I said above, the set of two is a risk. The second set I sold on the auction group only brought in $3. However, I stepped out of my comfort zone and also made a post on my personal Facebook page to sell them for $3 each and I had an aunt ask for 5.

Crochet Eyeglasses Bookmarks
Do you have to put your glasses on to read? I thought this would make the perfect bookmark for my second free crochet bookmark patterns to try. The glasses are actually appliques, but who says you can’t add a tail and make it a bookmark?
As you can see, I need some practice on mine, but I thought they were super cute. I think a cotton yarn would look better than the acrylic I used, but that may be personal preference.

Click here for the free patterns for the glasses. There are actually 5 diffferent ones, I only tried the 2 so far.
I have this listed on the auction group today, not sure if they will sell or not though.

Crochet Appliques
I mentioned above that the glasses are appliques. Keep that in mind when thinking of bookmarks you can make. I also made some poptart bookmarks, but I haven’t finished them yet. Do they look like poptarts to you? I sent this very picture to my son, age 24, and asked him what it looked like. He said the “one on the right looked like a poptart”…… I said, “Just the one on the right?” LOL

With all this being said, get creative, see what kind of small items you can make to sell that might not take too long. Key chains are another idea. Almost anything that is a key chain could be a bookmark, and vice versa. here.
